Crystal Cudworth is an interdisciplinary artist who focuses on the medium of oil painting. She has investigated the decline of the fishing industry in the United States along the east and west coasts. Her parents were deep sea, long-lining fishers and this has inspired her to pursue painting on boats and mountains to work athletically and rigorously. She interviews fisher people about their livelihoods as effected by the changing economy due to the tightening of federal regulations.
Cudworth was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design in painting with minors in writing and photography and her Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston where also participated in the Gender and Women's Studies Consortium held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is the 2017 Teaching Artist-in-Residence at the Canvas Community Art Studio in Juneau, Alaska.
